Conservative Republicans...not so conservative

Democrats against gay marriage

Here's Senator John McCain's 2006 floor statement that defines his strong support for marriage being one man and one woman (though he's divorced and has a second wife), but also being against a constitutional amendment. He focuses on trusting the people, and his belief that activist judges will be tempered by our republic.

Yet, he never talks about the possibility that state legislatures and ultimately voters might approve the redefinition of marriage.

So he comes up with an argument to be both for traditional marriage and against a constitutional amendment against gay marriage.

yet less than 5 years later:

Cindy McCain (second wife) poses for ad supporting gay marriage

This shows the pandering and failure to truly believe. No way she speaks out if McCain was really against it.
