Ashley Bell liberal democrat becomes Republican?

I saw a big headline: 2 black democrats switch to gop!:

Two African-American Democrats on Thursday announced that they were joining the Republican Party.

Hall County Commissioner Ashley Bell and former state executive committee member Andre Walker said the Democratic Party had grown too liberal and they are finding a new home with the Republicans.

The state GOP touted Bell as the first black elected official in modern times in Georgia to leave the Democrats for the GOP. But that distinction belongs to former state Sen. Roy Allen of Savannah, who joined the Republican Party in 1994.

Bell was introduced as a Republican at a news conference Thursday at party headquarters.

“My district is pretty Republican as it is,” Bell told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “My wife and I have been thinking about this for six months.”

It didn't make sense to me how a former President of College Democrats could become a Republican, BECAUSE THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY HAD GROWN TOO LIBERAL!

So I did some research:

This guy - Ashley Bell supported John Edwards in 2004! - check him out on cspan at a campaign event!!!

He was an advisor to Edwards also.

Notice in the video how he attack George W. Bush, and is clearly in support of:

Affirmative Action
against War in Iraq

Ashley Bell is a fraud. He is an opportunist. He is free to say he became more conservative and now believes the Republican party should be his home. But not that Democrats had become too liberal.

John Kerry was more liberal in 2004 than Obama was in 2008.
In addition, Bell was just at the Obama White House at an event.

The scuttlebut is that Bell had higher aspirations and was blocked in the Democratic party and saw the GOP as a vehicle for political expediency.

Whatever. But the media should do their homework.
It's one thing if Joe leiberman or Ben Nelson switch to the Republicans.
But this is like Chuck Schumer or Patty Murray switching saying the Democrats are too liberal.

I haven't done research on the other Democrat who switched.
This one is enough.
