Detroit Mayor pleads guily

Kwame Kilpatrick is headed to jail and democrats in the state may be headed for trouble.

We lost the opportunity to demonstrate strong ethics, and a true belief in good government by standing by rather than forcing Kilpatrick to resign earlier.

I pleaded with Obama and others to withdraw support for him. It should have been done publicly. Likewise, Democrats should demand William Jefferson resign also.

We are a party that needs the public to trust the government to do the right things. We in general ask for more tax money, and advocate for more power over the people. Therefore we have to be extra careful to make sure we are honest as a party.

In addition, the racial politics in Detroit may cause trouble for us in the fall. If we had done the right thing and treated Kilpatrick the way he should have been (ostracized), then we would have the moral high ground.

Any bad fallout is deserved.
