Memo to dems: pass AMT with spending cuts

To my party members who want to be re-elected, please fix the Alternative Mimimum Tax scheme that will force millions to pay higher taxes. I know we have made the pledge to "pay" for anything and not add to the debt our children will inherit.

But instead of raising taxes, here's a revolutionary idea:Democrats if they "must" pay for the AMT patch, should just propose an across the board spending reduction to pay for it.

Taking the argument that the government can do the same job with less money is a political winner. There won't be any specific constituency that can whine in particular. Also it would allow Democrats to pursue a valid point that liberalism doesn't have to always mean more money spent.
