fake outrage

There's a story that some NY met players wanted to honor the heroes of 9/11 by wearing a FDNY hat, but that MLB said that they couldn't.  Apparently MLB wanted all the teams to commerate the tragedy in the same way with the special uniform additions that all teams wore.

Now there's a fake outrage spreading through the media about this.

I'm thinking:

1. If players really felt that strongly, they could have borrowed hats from the crowd or somewhere and just worn them.

2.  It's not that big a deal.  The first responders risked their life, it is silly to debate this in public.  No matter what side of the issue you fall on, the conclusion doesn't matter.

3.  If you really think it's outrageous, talking about it makes you part of the problem.  You are reminding people of the insult.
