Another armchair general in politics retires

Just as have so many before him, Kent Conrad will not seek re-election.
This after he agreed with a politically tough sell of a Deficit Reduction plan from the President's Commission that cuts spending and raises taxes. In addition to the being a key author of the new health care law.

We can't keep having respected members imploring others to do what's right for America, only to see them not do what's right for America by taking difficult but necessary public stands and then educating and convincing the public to support them.

Sure they will be lied about and the public would be mislead.
But if this retiring pattern continues, the problem only gets worse.
It will leave the political field more to those who aren't inclined to put America first.
