Frontline in the Culture War

Britney Spears has number 1 album with Circus.

There are many problems that need to be addressed, but one that has receded into the background that we shouldn't let become a normalized is the degradation of pop culture by people like Britney Spears.

Of course hollywood and the music industry have a reputation of being less moral than the rest of society and "bringing us down". But our embrace of Britney Spears after all she has done is displaying an even worse problem. Our lack of outrage at the unacceptable.

Whether it is her unseriousness about marriage. Her abuse of alcohol. Her bad parenting. As well as just generally promoting secular values as opposed to the person she introduced herself as years ago.

We need to refuse to support people who don't represent what we want society to be. Otherwise we are inviting more deviancy. Perhaps even encouraging it.

I respect anyone's right to recover from mistakes. But that takes first a recognition, and dedication to change.

Britney seems to take pride in being ridiculous.

And the public as evidenced by her ranking supports her.

Democrats we need to use the bully pulpit to speak out against this as much as possible.
We should promote good values and artists who we can and should be proud of.

We all should be able to separate art from reality, but the artist should try to represent decency.

Every problem doesn't need a federal response in terms of legislation.
Sometimes we just need good people to speak about their values and exercise the same free speech that everyone is so quick to protect for others.
