Liberalism wins in the political bailout of Wallstreet

The good news is that Liberalism has won the day in Washington as both Republicans and Democrats are working to use the government to help out Wall Street.

Dow Rises 370 Points as U.S. Plans Financial Rescue Package

I wish Democrats would connect the "liberal" label with the package that ultimately is put forward, and establish a positive connection between this label, our party, and good policy results. Of course many good liberal ideas have/are working, but they are considered "mainstream" or beyond politics.

The "liberal" label has been used as an insult of Democrats. It is usually applied to bad Democratic ideas, often representing the hard left.

This financial crisis has come about as a failure of Republican policies. It will be addressed by some combination of Democratic and liberal policies. Using the government to help markets function properly.

Democrats and liberals should make sure the plan is as broad-based and effective as possible, and then take credit for winning an argument about the size and scope of government.
